Loizou and Others v. Turkey (no. 16682/90)

In a judgment of 22 September 2009 on this case, the Court held that there had been a violation of Article 8 (right to respect for private and family life and the home) and Article 1 of Protocol No. 1 (protection of property) on account of the applicants’ deprivation of their home and properties following the Turkish occupation of the northern part of Cyprus. In its judgment today, the Court awarded EUR 1,300,000 to one of the applicants (Kostas Kalisperas) in respect of pecuniary and non-pecuniary damage and EUR 15,000, to the applicants jointly, for costs and expenses.
